Disney Plus, although touted as an ad-free entertainment environment, will likely have a few advertisements, at least upon launch…
There’s been much buzz around the coming release of Disney+ and it’s supposed ad-free platform. But, the entertainment giant might not be able to deliver on its promises.
Disney Plus Won’t be Totally Ad-Free on its Launch
It appears Disney is the victim of a problem of its own making. The company must regain the rights to some of its most popular content. However, this presents an enormous obstacle. So, Disney must either wait for contracts to expire or place limited ads on Disney+ for rival service Starz.
The reason is fairly straightforward. Disney renegotiated its original deal with Starz. As a result, Disney must include ads about its competitor in order to stream titles such as Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The Starz ads will appear on the Disney+ login page, along with the ESPN+ login page, as well as within the mobile app and in browsers. Although, the ads won’t continue to appear after that.
At this time, it isn’t clear how long the ads will run on Disney Plus but they will be limited, particularly if customers login automatically through their web browsers.
