Facebook to Test Intertwining Stories with Events for People to Meet IRL

A new Facebook Stories/events combination test will experiment with giving people more details about upcoming get-togethers…

While Facebook continues to struggle through a storm of scandals, it’s doing what it can to re-ingratiate itself with users. Young people either don’t join or have left for its subsidiary Instagram. But, they gravitate to one key feature — Stories. The format Facebook lifted from rival Snapchat and the same tool which has provided much success.

Facebook Stories/Events Feature Test to soon Launch

Meanwhile, over at Facebook, one particular section continues to perform well. And, that’s events. Here, Facebook remains the best option for organizing social get-togethers, such as birthdays, concerts, and other types of real-world meetups.

Because of this, local businesses and brands utilize Events as a promotional tool. It’s actually where many people go to find what’s going on around them, be it for an evening or weekend.

So, it makes total sense Facebook would look to Events as the next destination for Stories. The social network says it will test a way “to share the events you’re interested in and coordinate to meet up with friends IRL.” The company will release the feature in the United States, Brazil, and Mexico on Android and iOS to start.

The stories will include options for tappable stickers to reveal event details. Friends are able to chose between “interested” and “going.” Plus, there’s also a link within the even page as a means of starting up a group chat on Messenger.

Facebook says its Stories product now boasts 300 million daily users.
