Google Docs Finally gets an Always-Visible Word Count for Desktop

A Google Docs always-visible word count is becoming available for G Suite users, with a full roll out coming in the next month…

Google Docs has long featured a word count tool. But, it worked behind-the-scenes, only visible by manual action. That’s about to change as the tech company is making a persistent word count box available.

Google Docs Always-Visible Word Count goes Live in G Suite

The new Google Docs always-visible word count tool will first arrive in G Suite on the web.

It’s a handy option, one that floats a small dialogue box over an open document. This makes it easier to keep up with minimums or maximums without having to stop to check.

The feature will make its full roll out by next month. Here’s part of what Google wrote about it.

“Users often need to see the word count in the documents they write. Instead of going to Tools > Word Count each time you want to view this information, now, you can simply select Tools > Word count > Display word count while typing to continuously display it in the lower left corner of your doc:”
