Google just Updated the Side Menu in the Maps Mobile App to Include New Material Design Elements

Google Maps side menu Material Design inclusion comes to the mobile application, bringing some subtle changes to its look but not functions…

In the past few months, Google Maps has undergone numerous changes. Recently, it introduced hashtags to consumer reviews and it likewise began privately displaying all B2C messages between users and companies.

It also recently integrated two key Waze features — traffic collision notices and speed enforcement reporting. Now, it’s rolling out more Material Design elements to the mobile app side menu.

Google Maps Side Menu Material Design Revamp Rolls Out

Although the Google Maps app already received a Material Design makeover, it applied to the main interface. No changes were then added in the side menu. However, that’s no longer the case as the side menu now matches the rest of the experience.

It’s now showing hollow icons, along with the Product Sans font typography, and it reorganizes the bottom bar options. Here’s two screenshots, the left before and the right, after the Material Design update:

It appears the new look is out for everyone, regardless if one the stable release or beta version. It’s also important to note, there’s been no real change in the functions, either.
