Google Play Store Free App of the Week Section Added

A new Google Play Store Free App of the Week just appeared in the Android digital outlet, highlighting one app every week at no charge for download…

Google officially sanctioned paid apps in the Play Store back in February. Now, there’s a new section called “Free App of the Week” appearing right on the home landing page on desktop and mobile.

Although promotional offers are normal, with scores of deals, Google is adding a new dimension, perhaps to highlight its sales. Currently the featured free app is “Card Wars – Adventure Time,” with the deal ending in four days.

It’s not yet known if this section is a permanent addition to the Google Play Store for Android mobile apps or is simply a promotion. Google already runs a “Hot Deals of the Week” for movies to own in the digital outlet. Currently, it’s running a “Spring Break Deals” promotion, offering feature films for a discounted price. Occasionally, a free movie to own offer will run in the Play Store. The most recent was “Bunyan and Babe,” which is now back on sale, starting at $7.99 and $3.99 to rent.
