Instagram might Launch a School-Based Stories Feature

An Instagram School Stories option is apparently in the works at this time, though it doesn’t mean its launch is imminent…

Instagram is in the midst of developing a feature for schools based on its Stories format, according to TechCrunch. It would allow groups of students to publish content from their education center.

Instagram School Stories Code Spotted

App researcher Jane Manchun Wong spotted key lines of code in the Instagram app which clearly shows a School Stories tool:

The program lines also include code which restricts viewership to select communities. In other words, only certain groups can see the content. Likewise, only students within the body can contribute to Stories. Moreover, there’s mandatory moderation to ensure privacy and safety.

This isn’t the first foray into such an option. During the summer, Instagram tested a similar feature for college student groups. It too, has restricted access to who can contribute and see the content. (Snapchat already did much the same back in 2015 with something called “Our Campus Story.”)

Instagram School Stories would provide another way students, parents, teachers, and staff can interact in a private space. Although the code is present at this time, there’s no guarantee it will debut. There’s also the possibility it won’t even make it to the testing phase.
