Instagram Stories Music stickers could become a reality in the future, allowing users to add song clips to their custom animations…
Facebook continues to expand its Instagram Stories capabilities. Now, a new report by TechCrunch which delves into the app’s code, reveals users might soon have the ability to add music clips to their Stories.
Instagram Stories Music Stickers a Possible Upcoming Feature
Peering into the Instagram app code uncovers a few new finds. These include a “Search Music” option, which appears alongside @mention stickers, as well as other locations. The code analysis also finds a “music overlay stickers” tool, with a catalog searchable by genres, moods, and “trending.”
However, it’s not explicitly clear this functions as one would image. In other words, it’s present but still unknown if it will work with photos and videos, but the latter seems more certain at this time. If it does become available to Instagram users, the feature would directly challenge third-party app Musical.ly (which currently dominates this function on Instagram).
It’s quite possible this is the intended strategy, given parent company has already struck deals with Sony/ATV, Warner Music Group, Universal Music Group, and others. That means the social platform could take another step out of the process, streamlining it for easier sharing. Users would eagerly welcome the change and it could also serve as another incentive to lure people away from competitors like rival Snapchat.
Of course, this is no guarantee the option will actually go live but past code discoveries have come to fruition.
