Netflix Borrows a Feature from Instagram to Help Subscribers Discover New Content

A new Netflix mobile app scrolling option is currently under testing, in order to help viewers to find more TV shows and movies, alike…

Netflix faces a number of challenges, even though it rules the video streaming market. One example is helping subscribers find new things to watch. So, the company is experimenting with an Instagram-like scrolling feed, which surfaces trailers, photos, and alerts for different content.

Netflix is Experimenting with Instagram-Like Mobile App Scrolling Feature

Netflix relies on its users to poke around to find new content to consume. Those familiar with the platform know it places two categories right near the top on television, “Recently Uploaded” and “Trending.”

Now, it’s going a step further to alert viewers to content they might otherwise miss. A Netflix spokesperson said in an interview:

“We are testing a feed of video extras in our mobile app to help fans connect more deeply with the titles they love and discover new ones to watch. These tests typically vary in length of time and by region, and may not become permanent.”

Suggestions play automatically, without sound. And, viewers can scroll through images horizontally, if desired. Since this is just a test, it’s unknown if Netflix will adopt and make it an inclusive feature.
