Facebook Reportedly Building its Own Voice Assistant to Go Head-to-Head with Google Assistant, Alexa, Siri, and Bixby

Facebook is reportedly building its own voice assistant, which will go up against established services like Google Assistant, Siri, and Alexa…

A recent report by CNBC reveals Facebook is working on creating its own digital assistant, according to “people familiar with the matter.”

New Facebook Voice Assistant Development Underway

The new Facebook voice assistant will join an expanding field, which already includes Google Assistant, Siri, Alexa, Cortana, and Bixby.

This is a huge endeavor, given the accuracy of its rivals, most particularly, Google Assistant.

In fact, a study last year revealed Google Assistant significantly outperform it peers.

That report measured the performance of the four best-known digital assistants over 800 queries. Google Assistant lead by a wide margin, answering 85.5 percent of the queries accurately. Second place went to Apple’s Siri, which came back with an accuracy rating of 78.5 percent. The gap grew wider with Amazon Alexa providing 61.4 percent. Microsoft Cortana came in last place, answering 52.4 percent of the queries accurately.

Although, Facebook has put substantial resources behind this type of technology. Remember M? It lived inside Facebook Messenger for quite some time before the company killed it off. At its peak, M could set a plan, start a poll, and send a location.

So, the company might resurrect its infrastructure to build it own virtual assistant.
