Hulu has reinvented its home screen for Roku and Apple TV, with new action sections and more, giving it a more intuitive functionality…
With the huge spike in streaming due to the coronavirus pandemic quarantines, there’s more pressure than ever to give viewers what they really want. Hulu is taking advantage of the circumstances by remaking its home screen to deliver more functionality and better aesthetics — at least for Roku and Apple TV owners.
New Hulu Roku and Apple TV Home Screen is Now Rolling Out
Hulu has already begun to release its redesigned home screen on Apple TV and Roku devices. It sports horizontal scrolling (like Netfilx, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, and more). These horizontal trays are broken down into various sections, such as “continue watching” and “unwatched in my stuff.”
What’s perhaps most notably different is the horizontal tray tiles appear in different sizes: a small one, a larger one, and a full-sized banner. This makes it more interesting and easier on the eyes when browsing titles. Jim Denney, VP, Product Management, and Jason Wong, Director, Product Management explain:
“With our growing audience, we’re constantly thinking about creating the best possible experience for our viewers, by getting them to the content they want to watch quickly while also helping them discover their next favorite movie or series to binge. We listened to feedback from our viewers and heard they loved how easy it was to continue watching the shows and movies they love, but not as easy to discover new content. That’s why today, we’re announcing some changes to our experience which will be available to some viewers on Roku and tvOS devices beginning today and roll out more broadly over the next few months.”
