Telegram 5.9 Brings New Sticker Format to the Messaging App

Telegram 5.9 stickers are faster and perform better overall, saving valuable data and storage space, not to mention battery life…

People like stickers because they help to express their feelings and are generally fun to look at for a variety of reasons. But, stickers eat up precious data, consume a significant bit of battery, and take away storage space.

The folks over at messaging app Telegram understand this, and have worked to release a new format which are even more data and battery friendly.

New Telegram 5.9 Sticker Format Announced

The new Telegram 5.9 stickers take up less space and boast marked improvement in performance:

“Telegram engineers experimented with vector graphics, packaging methods and forbidden magic to create the Lottie-based .TGS format, in which each sticker takes up about 20-30 Kilobytes – six times smaller than the average photo.

Thanks to various optimizations, animated stickers consume less battery than GIFs and run at a smooth 60 frames per second. If a picture is worth a thousand words, that’s 180,000 words per sticker.”

The new Telegram 5.9 stickers are already available in the Google Play Store
