Tumblr to Introduce a Group Chats Feature on its Mobile App

Tumblr group chats are planned to roll out to the social media blog platform’s mobile app, giving users a place to publicly post comments…

Tumblr will integrate a new group messaging feature as an alternative to replying on re-blogs. It’s called “group chats” and are public spaces, so anyone can view them. Tumblr is already releasing the option, which resides on its mobile app.

New Tumblr Group Chats Feature about to Launch

The new Tumblr group chats aren’t a private messaging platform. Instead, it’s a niche location where members of communities can exchange dialogue about their common interests.

Tumblr group chats also differ from Facebook Groups. Messages left on the Tumblr chats disappear after 24 hours. Plus, the platform limits participants to a maximum of 100 people. Additionally, though anyone can see the comments in a preview, they can’t chime in. That is, unless sending a request to join and being accepted.

Group owners retain full control over their areas. But, anyone in the group can report other users who engage in bad behavior. Although, it’s only group owners who can remove users.

What’s more, Tumblr group chats don’t allow participants to upload their own media, including images and GIFs. However, it is possible to use the built-in GIF option inside Tumblr. Adult content is also prohibited and people must be at least 13 years old to use the site.
