Tumblr Porn could Return as Verizon Reportedly Ready to Sell the Once NSFW Platform

Tumblr NSFW content was banned, effective in December of last year and now, parent company might sell it, which could return porn to the site…

A Tumblr adult content ban went into effect on December 17th of last year, following a child pornography scandal, completely changing the platform.

Verizon Reportedly Selling Tumblr, which could Lead to Reintroduction of NSFW Content

That policy change, unsurprisingly, caused a hugely negative impact on traffic. Now, parent company Verizon is reportedly looking to sell its subsidiary.

Previously, Yahoo purchased the once popular site for over $1 billion in 2013. It was packaged together when Verizon acquired Yahoo in 2017. Thereafter, Tumblr became part of the fleeting Oath business.

The recent ban of NSFW content sharply drove down traffic and isolated a good portion of the site’s user base.

The platform hit its lowest ever new mobile user count in Q4 2013. Plus, it was down approximately 40 percent in year-over-year numbers from Q1 2018, according to data from SensorTower.

Tumblr CEO Jeff D’Onofrio wrote in a 2018 blog post:

“We spent considerable time weighing the pros and cons of expression in the community that includes adult content. In doing so, it became clear that without this content we have the opportunity to create a place where more people feel comfortable expressing themselves.”

One reportedly interested party is adult site Pornhub, according to The Wall Street Journal
