All Warner Bros 2021 Films to Debut on HBO Max

ICYMI: Every Warner Bros. Film in 2021 will Simultaneously Debut on HBO Max and in Theaters

Warner Bros will use its HBO Max streaming service subsidiary to debut all of its movies in 2021, but will also release those films in theaters…

Last week, AT&T’s WarnerMedia announced it plans to release its entire 2021 film catalog on subsidiary HBO Max and in movie theaters simultaneously. It’s a hybrid approach that’s the result of disruption caused by the global pandemic and subsequent shutdowns that occurred all over the world. However, whether it will prove to be a smart strategy still remains to be seen. After all, Disney tried the VOD move with its live-action Mulan movie and estimates reveal that likely didn’t pay off.

This nearly follows the same strategy the studio is using for its upcoming film Wonder Woman: 1984, which is scheduled for release on December 25th on HBO Max. WarnerMedia Chair and CEO Ann Sarnoff said in a statement:

We’re living in unprecedented times which call for creative solutions, including this new initiative for the Warner Bros. Pictures Group. No one wants films back on the big screen more than we do. We know new content is the lifeblood of theatrical exhibition, but we have to balance this with the reality that most theaters in the U.S. will likely operate at reduced capacity throughout 2021.

The following films are tentatively slated to debut in 2021, though their specific release dates remain subject to change:

  • The Little Things
  • Judas and the Black Messiah
  • Tom & Jerry
  • Godzilla vs. Kong
  • Mortal Kombat
  • Those Who Wish Me Dead
  • The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It
  • In The Heights
  • Space Jam: A New Legacy
  • The Suicide Squad
  • Reminiscence
  • Malignant
  • Dune
  • The Many Saints of Newark
  • King Richard
  • Cry Macho
  • Matrix 4
