Amazon Alexa Traffic Update and Severe Weather Alert Skills Arrive

Amazon’s Alexa Smart Speaker Now Delivers Traffic Updates and Severe Weather Alerts

Amazon Alexa now supports traffic updates, along with severe weather alerts, and can also provide users with NBA and election highlights…

If there’s one constant about local traffic, practically no matter the location, it’s the fact it’s always changing. In the blink of an eye, road conditions can change, due to inclement weather, driver error, or just unfortunate circumstances. Speaking of weather, it too, is unpredictable.

But, Amazon’s Alexa just gained two very useful new skills, intended to help people better navigate their commutes and trips, as well as be aware of unfolding weather conditions ahead of time.

Amazon can now fill people in on local traffic conditions and alert them to incoming bad weather via its Alex smart speaker. (Plus, it can send the local traffic information right to a phone for even more convenience.) Alexa also now supports directions, which ostensibly work with any preferred map app.

Since weather is another huge part of the day, people can simply say, “Alexa, tell me when there’s a severe weather alert.” If such conditions happen, the smart speaker will notify them when bad weather is about to set in.

Amazon has also updated Alexa to provide NBA highlights, which are veiwable on any Alexa-enabled device with a screen. Additionally, it’s also possible to receive political updates, in order to stay informed.
