Apple Warns iPhone 5 Owners to Update their Software to iOS 10.3.4

Apple is actively warning iPhone 5 owners to update their software to version 10.3.4 in order to stay online.

If those device owners don’t upgrade, they’ll lose access to email, web browsing, the App Store, as well as iCloud. For those who don’t install the update, they’re not totally out of luck. Backing up and restoring to a computer is a temporary workaround. But, eventually, updating is necessary.

Apple writes the following on a support page:

“It’s always a good idea to keep the operating system on your iPhone updated. If you have an iPhone 5, it’s especially important to update your device’s software wirelessly or using your computer before November 3 to maintain accurate GPS location and to continue to use functions that rely on correct date and time including App Store, iCloud, email, and web browsing.”
