Built-In Facebook Camera GIF Option Spotted

A newly added built-in Facebook camera GIF option is appearing to some iOS users on their mobile devices to create short animations to share or save…

Facebook just added a new post GIF button, presenting users with yet another option, in addition to Photo/Video, Go Live, Check In, Feeling/Activity/Sticker, Slideshow, and Tag Friends. Now, it appears the social network is bringing a built-in camera GIF option to its mobile app.

New Built-In Facebook Camera GIF Option Appears

Discovered by Matthew Navarra at The Next Web, it appears when the native app camera launches, right at the top of the screen, alongside “Normal.” It gives users the power to record a short GIF file to share in a post, add to their Facebook Story, or even save it to their devices.

What’s more, users have the ability to use the entire suite of effects, as well as frames supported by the Facebook app. Although it’s been spotted on iOS, it’s unclear if it will roll out to Android or even what markets see the animation option. Generally, when Facebook tests a new feature, it’s limited to a small number of markets and/or users.

This is yet another adaptation of GIF support on Facebook. In mid-June, the company made comment GIFs available to all users.
