Instagram will soon foray further into the ecommerce world. So much, it will allow users to buy products right inside the app.
“Checkout on Instagram” Direct Shopping Option Debuts
The new feature, called “Checkout on Instagram,” will debut in the United States through a closed beta program with over twenty brands. (Those include household names Adidas, Nike, Zara, Kylie Cosmetics, Uniqlo, Burberry, H&M, Mac, Prada, and Michael Kors.) Plus, other brands will join in the program over the coming months.
In the next several weeks, users will see a product tag which provides details labeled “Checkout on Instagram.”
When a user finds something to buy, he or she can simply enter their payment and shipping information right within the Instagram app. Users can purchase products with credit cards or through PayPal. Instagram will support Shopify, BigCommerce, ChannelAdvisor, and CommerceHub in the future.
This comes as more users show increased interactions with brands’ products. Approximately 130 million people already tap on shopping posts per month, representing an increase of 40 million since September.
It’s a natural next step given that established activity it makes sense for Instagram to offer products directly to prevent users from going to another site.
