Disney will no longer offer a free trial period for its Disney Plus streaming service, this, just before its planned release of Hamilton on the platform…
Streaming services have long offered free test periods. For instance, both Netflix and Hulu give first-time triers free 30-day trials. And, when it entered into the streaming market, Disney did just the same. (Although, for a much shorter amount of time. New Disney+ subscribers received a free week trial.) But, that’s come to an end.
Disney Plus Ends its Free Trial Period
According to a French entertainment site, the streaming service is now displaying a message that informs viewers that it’s discontinuing its free trial offer. And, it’s happening about two weeks before it brings its smash hit Hamilton to the platform, set to stream on Friday, July 3rd.
Disney+ now has over 54.5 million subscriptions, according to its last quarterly earnings report. As recently as the end of March, Disney+ had approximately 33.4 million subscriptions. A spokesperson for Disney tells CNET:
“The service was set at an attractive price-to-value proposition that we believe delivers a compelling entertainment offering on its own.”
