Disney’s immensely popular streaming service now has 50 million installs from the Google Play Store, underscoring its irresistible content library…
Just last week, Disney+ reached over 73 million subscribers worldwide. That puts the streaming service nearly at parity with Netflix’s US numbers. Now, there’s another metric to demonstrate just how popular Disney Plus really is among consumers — it now has 50 million Android app downloads from the Google Play Store. Of course, not all of these account for individual subscriptions. But, it does show how eager people are to watch its content.
Disney Plus Reaches 50 Million Installs on the Google Play Store
About one year ago, Disney first released its streaming platform, Disney Plus. Launched on Tuesday, November 12th, 2019, analysts predicted Disney+ would reach between 10 and 18 million subscriptions in its first year and 60 to 90 million subscribers over five years time. However, it amassed 10 million subscriptions in just 24 hours. Then, it surpassed 28.6 million less than 3 months later.
The fact that the Disney+ app for Android has amassed 50 million installations shouldn’t come as a surprise given that it already took the title of the most downloaded mobile application of the fourth quarter of 2019. (That included 12 million downloads from the Google Play Store and another 18 million installs from the Apple App Store. Something that hasn’t been accomplished since Messenger did the same three years ago, in 2017.)
