Artemis Fowl Disney Plus debut

Disney’s Upcoming Artemis Fowl Film to Premier on Disney+, Skipping Theatrical Release Altogether

Disney has announced it will move its release of its Artemis Fowl movie over to Disney Plus, rather than premiering it in theaters…

The coronavirus quarantine has effectively shut down much of normal, day-to-day life. With the COVID-19 outbreak, many changes are necessary, including how production studios release their upcoming films. Such is the case with Disney’s Artemis Fowl, originally slated to open in theaters May 29th.

Disney’s Artemis Fowl Debuting on Disney Plus, Skipping Theatrical Release

Instead of giving the flick about a 12-year-old criminal mastermind a theatrical premier, the company is releasing it straight to Disney+. Of course, this isn’t the only movie release that’s been altered. The upcoming live-action Mulan will now tentatively premier on July 24th and Black Widow will move to November 6th.

Artemis Fowl is based on a series by the same name, created by author Eoin Colfer. Originally, the movie adaptation was supposed to debut in theaters on August 2019. But, it’s release was pushed back due to the global coronavirus pandemic.

Disney+ content and marketing president Ricky Strauss wrote in a statement:

“With audiences largely unable to attend theatres in the current environment, we are thrilled to offer the premiere of ‘Artemis Fowl’ on Disney Plus. Director Kenneth Branagh and his spectacular cast take viewers right into the vibrant, fantasy world of the beloved book, which fans have been waiting to see brought to life onscreen for years. It’s great family entertainment that is the perfect addition to Disney Plus’s summer lineup.”
