Netflix original titles will exceed anything the streaming service has put out previously next year, as the company hits another subscription milestone…
With the wildly successful roll out of Disney+, the launch of HBO Max, and the introduction of NBC Peacock, Netflix has more competition than ever. But, the immensely popular streaming service has a plan to please its huge customer base and attract more subscribers in 2021.
Expansive Netflix Original Content Titles Planned for 2021
Netflix now counts more than 192 million paying customers, after adding 26 million in the first half of this year. (The company added 28 million through all of 2019, by comparison.) Of course, quite a bit of this is a result of the global pandemic shut downs, but its original library most definitely contributed to its growth.
For instance, the Jeffery Epstein and Tiger King series, along with Mindy Kaling’s Never Have I Ever, its reality content Floor is Lava, and Extraction staring Chris Hemsworth. All of those tiles racked up huge viewership. Among the biggest were Tiger King, which ammassed 34 million views in just 10 days, along with Never Have I Ever, clocking in 40 million viewers in its first four months.
But, that’s not all. Floor is Lava hit 37 million, while Extraction claimed 99 million in its first 28 days on the streaming service. So, Netflix plans to go bigger in 2021:
“For 2021, based on our current plan, we expect the paused productions will lead to a more second half weighted content slate in terms of our big titles, although we anticipate the total number of originals for the full year will still be higher than 2020.”
One known series will hit sometime later this year, Cobra Kai, which it acquired from YouTube.
