Facebook birthday fundraiser options are a new way to support charities in the U.S. and users can now send personalized birthday videos…
Facebook wants birthdays to really mean something. Today, the social network announced a new birthday experience option — fundraising for one of 750,000 charities on the platform.
“People often dedicate their birthday to support a cause, and we’ve seen people using Facebook to raise money for causes they care about. For those in the US, we’re now making it easier to do this by giving you the opportunity to create a fundraiser for your birthday directly on Facebook,” Product Director Mike Nowak explains.
New Facebook Birthday Fundraiser Options Roll Out
Facebook says over 45 million birthday wishes go out on its site daily and it wants to give users more options to celebrate the way they’d most like. Two weeks before a user’s birthday, the social network will place a message in their News Feed, with a fundraiser option. Users can choose to set a goal and that’s it. Their friends will receive notification invitations to support the chosen cause.
Send a Personalized Birthday Video to Friends
Additionally, Facebook now gives users a more personalized way to say happy birthday with a custom video. “Birthdays have always been a part of Facebook, and we hope to continue providing you with a variety of experiences that make celebrating on the platform fun and meaningful for you and your friends.”
Friends see a shareable birthday video on a birthday boy’s or girl’s special day. Here’s a short video of the feature in action:
Facebook just announced a new mobile app redesign, which includes changes to the look of the News Feed, comments, and more. Currently, Facebook July Memories are available on the network, its latest campaign against “context collapse” or a decline in original content broadcasting.
