Facebook comments are now appearing more like a Messenger app thread rather than the previous look, in a possible move to boost engagement on the network…
Facebook is currently testing an option to make comments look strikingly similar to Messenger threads. Comments are given individual conversation bubbles, which might prompt more users to respond through the social network’s mobile app.
Facebook Comments Get New Messenger Style Look
An increasing number of Messenger users probably means Facebook is attempting to bring that feel to its main platform. Messenger already has over 1 billion people using the mobile app. And, Facebook personal updates are on the decline, even though engagement is on the rise.

Spotted by Troy Osinoff, it’s not known how widespread the testing is at this time. But it seems an attempt to capitalize on a trend — more and more personal interactions are flowing through Messenger — instead of posting comments on Facebook. This tests seems to indicate by mirroring Messenger threads, users will naturally gravitate by to the main Facebook platform. That result would boost engagement and help to ward off what the company calls “context collapse.”
Facebook Stories recently expanding its testing pool to include more users. Just over a week ago, the company released Messenger Day, another of many Snapchat clones by the world’s largest social network. Facebook is also continuing to test a Messenger chat UI or user interface, along with its virtual assistant known simply as “M.”
