Facebook Community Actions are a new way to get involved in different causes, as the social network seeks to encourage civic awareness…
As if Facebook doesn’t have enough controversy to deal with, the social corporation is now inviting users to take up a cause, any cause. It’s a new tool called “Community Actions.” And, it allows people to create a cause and organize others.
Facebook Community Actions Petition Feature Released
The new Facebook Community Actions tool isn’t intentionally aimed at pushing hot-button issues. Instead, it’s for things like local events and/or policies. For example, installing lighting in a public park. Or, paving a neglected road. (One example is a petition to improve pedestrian safety in a local neighborhood.)
Here’s how Facebook describes the option:
“Building informed and civically engaged communities is at the core of Facebook’s mission. Every day, people come together on Facebook to advocate for causes they care about, including by contacting their elected officials, launching a fundraiser, or starting a group. Through these and other tools, we have seen people marshal support for and get results on issues that matter to them. Community Action is another way for people to advocate for changes in their communities and partner with elected officials and government agencies on solutions.”
Community Actions have their own discussion feed. People can post comments, create fundraisers, and even organize events and more.
