Both Facebook and Google apps occupy the top spots of a newly released Nielsen survey, published on Wednesday. In fact, between the two companies, Facebook and Google take the eight top slots out of consumers’ ten most popular apps. According to Nielsen’s data, number one Facebook captures 146,027,00 average active unique users, a change of 14 percent in a year-over-year comparison. Facebook Messenger is second, boasting 129,679,000 average active unique users, with a 28 percent change, year-over-year.

YouTube enjoys some 113,738,000 average active unique users being the third most popular, experiencing a 20 percent year-over-year change. Google Maps takes is the fourth most popular, with 105,749,000 average active unique users, a 22 percent change in a year-over-year comparison.

Rounding out the top five mobile apps of 2016 is Google Search, with 103,959,000 average active unique users, and only a 9 percent change, year-over-year. Google Play is number six, with 99.77 million average active unique users, while GMail is seventh, Instagram eighth, Apple Music ninth, and Amazon tenth.

These figures are quite impressive, considering consumer mobile app fatigue is at an all-time high. The average consumer spends 70 to 80 percent of their digital time in their three most-frequently used apps, practically ignoring all others installed. A full 74 percent of all consumers report wanting to uninstall used apps. Moreover, only 1 in 10,000 apps developed break-even or are profitable.
