Facebook Groups just released a new membership screening tool, allowing administrators to ask prospective members questions for a better filtering process…
Back in January, Facebook started testing a new screening questionnaire feature for Facebook Groups in an effort to help improve the membership filtering process. Now, the social network confirms the tool is now available to all Groups.
Facebook Groups Launches Membership Screening Tool
Facebook Groups admins now have the ability to ask prospective members up to three questions. With this tool, Groups can better evaluate potential members wanting to join to learn if they are a good fit.
“Screening new membership requests requires time and legwork for admins – particularly for groups built around focused passions or purpose. For these groups, admins typically have specific criteria they require before admitting new members. Establishing these open-ended questions enables them to more quickly review and approve member requests; in turn, people seeking communities of support or shared interest can more quickly connect with others,” a Facebook spokesperson told TechCrunch.
The new membership screening tool gives admins the power to assess a requested member’s intentions — whether he or she will add constructively to the Groups’ discussions or will spam or troll the community. The three questions give potential members up to 250 characters of answer space and only admins and moderators have access to the questions.
Now, users who click or tap on “Join” with a Group having the questionnaire will immediately be prompted to fill it out. But, invited users receive a notification linked to the form. Applicants can edit answers until admins review the submission form.
Facebook recently announced it is downranking News Feed links to low-quality web page experiences. Earlier this month, the social network shut down “tens of thousands” of fake accounts in the United Kingdom.
