Facebook has made three new additions to its Watch platform, in an attempt to entice more users into viewing a variety of video content…
The world’s largest social network introduced Facebook Watch just over three years ago, in August of 2017. Since that time, the video-on -demand section has grown to accommodate more than 1.25 billion monthly viewers. But, that apparently isn’t a large enough audience, so Facebook has introduced three new features to Watch, including topic-following, along with two new sections, What’s Happening and Featured.
Facebook Introduces Topics, along with What’s Happening and Featured Sections in Watch
The first, topics, which is now available in the United States, is just what people would think intuitively. It allows users to follow topics in which they are interested, such as cooking, travel, and many others. “Topics let you personalize the videos that show up in your feed so it’s tailored to what you care about. You can find and follow topics in Watch, and there are hundreds to choose from like Crafts, Comedy, Dance and Beauty,” Product Manager Sherif Kassatly explains.
The other two additions, What’s Happening and Featured, are chosen by Facebook. These videos will keep viewers up-to-date on the biggest events, like the MLB’s World Series. Plus, users will “…see videos in your Watch feed based on what your friends are reacting to and what’s popular in your Groups.”
