Facebook Messenger M Virtual Assistant Now Wants to be a Personal Planner

A Facebook Messenger M virtual assistant planner now occasionally appears as a personal scheduling tool to help users stay organized….

A (not so) new Facebook Messenger M virtual assistant planner now pops up in conversations. Facebook apparently keeps attempting to improve Messenger M, its artificial intelligence or AI powered mobile assistant.

Facebook Messenger M Virtual Assistant Tries to become a Personal Planner

It seems certain words or phrases trigger a planner tool in Messenger conversations. As pictured below, the thread reads, “Talked to Jessica and booked Owen’s haircut appointment for this Saturday at 11:30.” It’s unknown what specific words or phrase caused the AI powered assistant to “Start Plan.”

Tapping on “Start Plan” renders a pop-up that reads, “Set an event reminder” which includes the users in the conversation. It automatically gives users a choice to either select what it reads in the thread or to “Choose Different Time.”

Selecting the predetermined date and time generates a reminder, with the option to “Name Event Reminder.”

After setting a name for the event, the details page gives users the date, time, name, and address (if inserted by the user).

While this isn’t the first time the Facebook Messenger M virtual assistant displays a planning option, it’s definitely not something that regularly pops up. It only appears occasionally. But it’s clear Facebook is serious about improving the feature as it just acquired Ozlo, a Palo Alto-based artificial intelligence startup.

Back in June, the Facebook Messenger M AI assistant introduced a few new options. Those included sending proactive reminders about saved content, such as posts, articles, and videos through the “Saved” extension.
