Facebook, Messenger Mobile Apps to Cease Working Tomorrow for Many Types of Android, iOS, and Windows, Smartphones
Official support for Facebook and Messenger mobile apps will end March 31st, as the company pulls functionality from Facebook version 55 and Messenger version 10. The social giant states it always seeks to improve its digital products but over time, older versions cannot handle new features.
“One of the ways we continue to improve is by consistently introducing rich features, like voice and video calling, games, and bots for Messenger. Using older versions of apps means that experiences won’t work well or sometimes not at all. As a result, we are asking people who are using older versions to upgrade so they can enjoy more of the delightful features of Messenger.,” the company wrote on its blog.
Facebook states it is reaching out to affected users and is offering suggestions for how to continue to enjoy the apps. By tomorrow, support for Facebook v55, Messenger v10 on Android, Facebook v26 for iPad, Messenger v8 for iOS and Facebook for iOS, released in 2011 stops. Additionally, support ends for Facebook Windows 8 and the 8.1 desktop app.
The company also suggests to either update to the most current version or install Facebook Lite. For users with devices unable to support the latest version, the company recommends, “If your devices do not support the newest versions of Facebook, we recommend going to Facebook.com through your mobile browser.”
