Facebook Just Placed a Trending News Section Link in Its Main Navigation Menu

A new Facebook mobile Trending News section link now appears inside the native app’s main navigation menu for some users at this time…

Apparently, Facebook is rolling out a new link in its main navigation section labeled “Trending News.” Presently, the Facebook mobile Trending News is appearing on iOS and currently under testing for Android in the United States.

Facebook Mobile Trending News Section Link Now Appears in Main Menu

The social network announced in May its Trending Topics redesign and now, it will include a section devoted to news events, according to TechCrunch. Here’s a screenshot of the Trending News section, situated between Nearby Places and Weather:

In the May Trending Topics redesign announcement, the company revealed the section would focus on publications’ coverage, along with what friends and public figures say about them. Here’s a screenshot of the old on the left and the new design on the right:

Presently, Trending Topics is accessible simply by tapping on the search box at the top of the mobile app. As pictured above, Facebook replaced the simple topics with headlines and images, along with sources. Additionally, topic curation appears by rank, with numbered positions appearing in the bottom left corner of the images.

Previously, Facebook tested placing the top three stories right atop the News Feed, which looked like this:

But it now appears the social network is favoring a devoted section to Trending News without placing it inside users’ main News Feed (which launches by default when users open the app or login via desktop).

Facebook recently announced it would reward faster loading pages in its News Feed, while downranking slow-loading pages.
