Facebook recently announced it would begin to surface public group posts into users’ News Feeds, starting over the next few months…
It’s certainly no secret that Facebook wants users to spend as much time on the platform as possible. The social network has come up with dozens, even scores, or hundreds of ways of accomplishing this. But, apparently, that’s not enough. Now, the social site will begin to show public group contents right inside users’ news feeds. This, ostensibly to help people discover new things.
Facebook Public Group Posts to Appear in the News Feed
The change will happen gradually over the coming months. Users will start to see content published within public groups in the News Feed. Of course, since these groups are already public, their updates are already discoverable. But, this will automate the process, so users won’t have to search on their own. On the other hand, it’s yet another tool to keep people on the site much longer. Fidji Simo, Head of the Facebook App, explains:
“To help more people find and connect with communities, we’re going to start testing new ways for people to discover conversations in Public groups on and off Facebook.
You might see Related Discussions in News Feed when someone posts a link or reshares a post on Facebook. This will let you dive deeper and see what other groups are saying about the same content. When you visit the Groups tab, you can see posts from Public groups related to your interests, as well as popular posts across Public groups, recommended to you.”
