To reach more consumers on the world’s largest social media network, posts must obtain more Reactions than Likes. The Facebook algorithm now rewards Reactions — Love, Haha, Wow, Sad, or Angry — over Likes in users’ News Feeds. The more Reactions, the higher a post ranks and all are equally rated.
Facebook Reactions Higher Algorithm Ranking Factor than Likes
Considered a more deep level of engagement by Facebook, Reactions must actively be selected by users, unlike the readily available Like:
“Over the past year we’ve found that if people leave a reaction on a post, it is an even stronger signal that they’d want to see that type of post than if they left a Like on the post,” according to Facebook. “So we are updating News Feed to weigh reactions a little more than Likes when taking into account how relevant the story is to each person.”
Facebook Reactions debuted just over a year ago, in late February 2015. Since that time, the social media platform states over 300 billion Reactions have occurred. Upon release, Love shot to the top as the most used, accounting for half of all Reactions. This was true, even when Reactions were rarely used.
With this information in-mind, marketers must work to receive more Reactions for their posts. Facebook remains the most popular social media site, a recently released demographic report reveals. In February, Facebook gave the public a look into how its Instagram algorithm works.
