Facebook snuck a meme creator app onto the Canadian App Store called Whale, built by its New Product Experimentation team…
Memes are some of the most popular mediums on the internet. So, it’s no surprise Facebook would at least attempt to gain a sizable market share in the art form. And, the social network is trying its hand with a new app called Whale.
Facebook Subtly Releases Whale, a New Meme Creation App
Found in the Canadian App Store, Whale gives users the power to create their own memes. People can upload their own images or select pics from a stock library:
“No distractions, no hidden subscription pricing. Use your own images or choose from our stock photo library and get creative with text, tools, effects, and more right inside the app.”
Whale also allows users to add text, emojis, and filters. There’s also a variety of layouts, along with a free-form drawing tool:
The Whale meme creation app comes from the New Product Experimentation team at Facebook. (That crew’s job is to build and tweak experimental Facebook apps.)
Since it comes from the experimental wing of the social network, there’s no telling what Facebook will do with it. The company is well-known for its many short-lived apps that have gone on to abruptly end.
