Facebook Reveals it’s Using Artificial Intelligence to Identify and Take Down Revenge Porn

A new Facebook revenge porn AI tracking system will find such content to help the social network remove it from its flagship, as well as Instagram…

Social media giant Facebook has recently announced it’s introducing a new AI system aimed at detecting revenge porn.

Facebook Revenge Porn AI System Announced

The digital corporation says it uses machine learning to identify nude images and videos before users even report them. A human moderator will review flagged content, if it does violates Facebook’s Community Standards.

Sharing such content will almost certainly result in a ban of the account which originally posts it. However, the company will offer an appeals process for cases involving incorrect actions.

Facebook will deploy the system on its flagship platform, along with subsidiary Instagram. Additionally, they’ll provide victim resources within the Safety Center.

“This new detection technology is in addition to our pilot program jointly run with victim advocate organizations. This program gives people an emergency option to securely and proactively submit a photo to Facebook. We then create a digital fingerprint of that image and stop it from ever being shared on our platform in the first place. After receiving positive feedback from victims and support organizations, we will expand this pilot over the coming months so more people can benefit from this option in an emergency.”
