Facebook Trending Results Page Redesigned

The Facebook Trending results page receives a makeover, offering multiple source publications around topics, providing more diversity in a carousel…

A newly redesigned Facebook Trending results page comes to the mobile native app on iOS and will soon arrive on Android in the United States. The social network explains users have always had the option to tap on a topic to see related posts. But now, doing so will display a variety of publications around a topic.

Facebook Trending Results Page Gets New Look

Not only will the Facebook Trending results page display multiple publications around a topic, posts from friends and public figures will also appear. “Now, when you click on a Trending topic, you’ll see a carousel with stories from other publications about a given topic that you can swipe through. By making it easier to see what other news outlets are saying about each topic, we hope that people will feel more informed about the news in their region,” Ali Ahmadi, Product Manager, and John Angelo, Product Designer explain.

Facebook states the new experience displays the most popular content related to topics. “These stories are determined the same way as the featured headline — using a combination of factors including the engagement around the article on Facebook, the engagement around the publisher overall, and whether other articles are linking to it.”

The company also states this is just a small test and hopes to bring it to more users as it learns more about how to make the section more “useful and informative.” Facebook is currently working to improve user experience. One initiative is its crackdown on fake live videos. Another is an update to the News Feed algorithm to reduce clickbait.
