One of the single best ways to combat disinformation is to get people to recognize it for what it is when they see it firsthand. Trouble is, doing so can be downright boring. But now, Finnish Public Broadcasting Company, Yle, is doing it in a genuinely fun way. 

New Game Explains How Bots and Trolls Spread Fake News on Social Media

The company is using a game, called “Troll Factory,” to help people better understand how fake news is spread on social media. 

It allows people who play the game to experience the journey most often taken to spread misinformation online. So, it’s interactive and let’s people experience how bots and trolls might go about disseminating fake news.

Players are given an option among a few choices of which messages to post. The game basically walks people through a disinformation campaign. It also scores their play and after completing a week of play, displays contextual information on the methods of influence.
