On Thursday, July 23rd, many Garmin device owners experienced an abrupt and ongoing interruption in service. Things still aren’t the same but are slowly returning to normal operation. And, now the corporation has confirmed it was indeed the victim of a cyber attack that resulted in the outage.
Garmin Confirms its Systems went Offline Due to a Cyber Attack
Garmin states that it did experience impact across many of its platforms, including its website and its functionality, its customer support, along with customer facing applications, and internal communications. But, the company is working to return its operations to normal. Garmin explains what it is doing in the wake of the attack in a press release:
“We immediately began to assess the nature of the attack and started remediation. We have no indication that any customer data, including payment information from Garmin Pay™, was accessed, lost or stolen. Additionally, the functionality of Garmin products was not affected, other than the ability to access online services.”
