In an examination of the latest software for Gboard, 9to5Google spotted some interesting lines of code. Most notably, Smart Reply, a feature widely available in Gmail and Inbox by Gmail.
Gboard Smart Reply Spotted in APK Teardown
It works by reading message contents and then offering contextual, suggested replies. And, in this version, it will nicely be compatible with several other apps. Those include Hangouts, Android Messages, Allo, Facebook Messenger, and Messenger Lite, WhatsApp, Snapchat, and Tencent. For those unfamiliar, here’s how it works inside of Gmail:

The Smart Reply code resides in version 6.9 for Android. So, there’s no guarantee it will make it to public release. Typically, Google tests such features with a limited group of users.
In addition to Smart Reply, code for a GIF maker was also uncovered in the APK teardown. It works through a “Make a GIF” button.
