In a possible server-side switch, the Google App for Android and iOS is now displaying Trending News cards, as well as a Related Stories carousel. The company also recently introduced a new Google App carousel on the same native app.

The new Trending News and Related News appear above the regular set of headlines, which normally greet users upon launching the app. The Trending News cards display topics users show interest in, along with recent search history. A screenshot from Reddit shows the new cards appearing on the Google App:

The Trending News cards are dismissible by swiping to the right of a mobile device. Or, users are able to tap on the three dots, located at the top right, to select “Finished with these cards.”

Tapping on Trending Cards launches a Google search query for that particular topic. While tapping on a specific headline takes users to the publisher’s website or opens the content in-app.

Just last week, Google integrated GIFs, emoji, and improved Assistant on its Allo app.
