Google Cloud Outage Takes Down YouTube, Gmail, and Snapchat

A widespread Google Cloud outage caused key services to go down on Sunday, including YouTube, Gmail, and Snapchat…

This Sunday, a number of services relying on Google Cloud experienced outages. Among them were YouTube, Snapchat, Gmail, Nest, Discord, and more, across the United States. The problem began around 3PM EST, lasting over four hours.

Most of the Google Cloud outage affected the east coast of the US. Although, some users in Europe experienced access problems, too. In fact, at one point or another, Google’s own G Suite Status dashboard warned of down times for almost every Google web service.

Additionally, the outage impacted Discord, Snapchat, and Vimeo, as well. (Each of these services rely on the Google Cloud.) The problem even went so far to affect Shopify, which could not process customer payments as a result of the outage.

Google fixed the problem and has since said it’s taken appropriate measures to prevent the issues from reoccurring in the future.
