Google Maps Follow

Google Maps is Rolling Out a New ‘Follow’ Feature to Stay Up-to-Date with Users’ Favorite Places

The new Google Maps Follow button will give users the latest updates on their favorite stores and restaurants, powered through Google My Business…

Google has released various new features for Maps in the last few months. Now, the search engine is rolling out a “Follow” option for specific locations. It provides users with updates regarding events and offers from their favorite restaurants and stores.

Google Maps’ ‘Follow’ Button Surfaces Updates from Real Places

Google Maps Follow will also tell users when news places are about to open. In search results, dates appear in bold and the store card on the SERP will display its physical address and website.

This isn’t actually automatically populated by Google. Instead, companies must participate in the Google My Business program. (Those which aren’t presently active can create a Business Profile in Google My Business.) Participating companies would have to add updates for users of Maps to be in-the-know.

Google Maps recently updated its hotel listings, adding some new tools while removing other features. The app also can now help people plan group events and even help out with planning their commutes and road trips.

The new Google Maps Follow button is currently going live in regions where the “For You” tab is supported. Google will add more countries soon. Presently, it’s only available on Android.
