Google Messages is receiving the ability to pin conversations, giving users the option to keep the most important discussions at the top…
Google Messages continues to evolve and improve. The chat application has really upped its capabilities lately, especially with the recent arrival of end-to-end encryption and starred messages. But, one feature that’s been conspicuously absent, although it appears it is well on its way. That is, pinned conversations, or a tool to stick specific chats to the top of the discussion thread.
Google Messages Pinned Conversations Arriving on Android 11 and Android 12
The first evidence of the feature showed up in an APK teardown. Then, early last week, Google officially unveiled starred messages, but pinned conversations remained in development. That is, until some people began to notice long-pressing on a thread revealed the option. Once selected, the message stays locked at the top of the inbox, until unpinned or deleted.
Google Messages’ new pinned conversations isn’t yet available to all users. Instead, it appears to be a slow and steady server-side switch, with an incremental roll out. However, it has been spotted in beta version 8.3.026 on both Android 11 and Android 12. Although, this doesn’t mean installing either will guarantee the tool appear as an option in the chat app.
