Search giant Google just added a Google My Business text messaging tool, giving searchers and customers a new way to contact businesses…
Google is sending out email notifications about a new Google My Business text messaging option. It’s simple enough, businesses can add any phone number with text support to enable the feature.
Google My Business Text Messaging Option Introduced
Just last week, Google rolled out Google My Business quick links, a tool which allows businesses to add URLs directly inside their online listings, but this option is for select categories only.
The notification email for Google My Business text messaging reads, “When customers find your business on Google, they can call to get in touch. Now, they can also message you directly from your Google My Business listing. Enable this feature by adding a phone number that can receive texts in your Google My Business account. This number will not be revealed to customers, and you can turn off this feature any time.”
How to Enable Google My Business Text Messaging
The email contains a link to turn the feature on through a simple two-step process:
- Registered users sign into their Google My Business account
- Then, add a phone number with SMS support
After entering a valid phone number that supports SMS texting, click “Next.” Google then sends a six digit numeric code. Simply enter the verification code* and click “Submit.”
*The verification process might not work. Here’s a screenshot of the Google My Business text messaging sign up verification error, which reads, “Sorry, we are having some issues at the moment, Please try again later.”
The search engine recently added Posts by Google to the Google My Business platform and also launched an appointment booking feature called Reserve with Google.
