Google News AMP search results listings more than double in just a week’s time, rising from 30 percent to 70 percent, according to a RankRanger report…
Google News AMP search results more than doubled over the span of a week on the mobile version. Over the course of the past several days, Google is returning search results to users which include an increased number of accelerated mobile pages.
Google News AMP Search Results Up by Over Double
In a new report by RankRanger, AMP listings accounted for about 30 percent of all U.S. mobile Google News results on January 25th. Then, on January 29th, the percentage of accelerated mobile pages on Google News mobile increased to 70 percent.
Similarly, more AMP listings appeared in other countries around the world. “The number of AMP optimized news articles appearing within Google’s Top Stories on mobile has skyrocketed across the globe,” Mordy Oberstein from RankRanger said.
It isn’t known if the mobile Google News SERP AMP listing increase is due to an algorithm change, a glitch, or a simple decision to return more accelerated mobile pages.
Recently, the search engine confirmed its new mobile intrusive interstitial penalty is hitting country and language selector pop ups. Earlier this year, Google mobile image search results included autoplay YouTube videos in an apparent test.
