Google Photos Takeout Technical Issue Incorrectly Exported Users' Videos

Google Says a Technical Bug Accidentally caused Photos Users’ Videos to be Shared with Strangers

Google has disclosed a technical issue that occurred last year, which resulted in sharing users’ Photos content with strangers…

Tech giant Google is familiar with technical glitches. And, it suffered one last year with its Takeout platform, interacting with Photos. This ultimately caused Photos users’ content to briefly be shared with unknown parties. The bug apparently affected just 0.01 percent of users requesting a Takeout and lasted only four days.

Google Photos Takeout Technical Issue Incorrectly Exported Users’ Videos

Google is alerting some of its users of a technical issue that shared some people’s videos with other Photo patrons between November 21st and 25th, 9to5Google reports.

The company says this only affected users who requested Takeout exports during that four-day period and the issue has since been resolved:

“One or more videos in your Google Photos account was affected by this issue. We fixed the underlying issue and have conducted an in-depth analysis to help prevent this from ever happening again. We are very sorry this happened.”

Google is asking users to go in and delete any archives they have downloaded between the 21st and 25th of November 2019 and to perform another export.

Furthermore, Google warns some of the Takeout requests might have only partially completed. And, that some could contain other users’ content.
