The global pandemic certainly put everyday health front-and-center of many people’s lives. Since Google loves to use technology to its fullest, the company is taking the opportunity to give Pixel owners quicker access to on-the-fly health checks.
Google Pixel Phones Gaining Heart and Breath Rate Measurement Tools via Google Fit
Beginning next month, Pixel phone owners can open the Google Fit app and then measure their heart and breathing rates using the phone’s hardware. Simply tap on the new cards on the homepage and Google will attempt to measure breath rates by examining chest movements. Placing a finger on the rear camera will measure heart rate. Shwetak Patel, Director of Health Technologies for Google Health explains:
“Heart rate and respiratory rate are two vital signs commonly used to assess your health and wellness. Starting next month, Google Fit will allow you to measure your heart rate and respiratory rate using just your phone’s camera. These features will be available in the Google Fit app for Pixel phones, with plans to expand to more Android devices.”
