Google is starting to take its initial steps toward monetizing Google Home and the Google Assistant in a few different ways…
Google Slowly Monetizing Google Assistant and Google Home
Back in February, Google began surfacing ads in Assistant alongside search results. A couple of months later, in April, ads displayed for non-answer queries. “When relevant, these results may include the existing ads that you’d see on Search today.”
The Google Home smart speaker, which streams YouTube Music, also began running ads. Audio ads are part and parcel of the free, ad-supported version. (The premium $9.99 per month plan is ad-free.)
Another prime monetization opportunity comes with local services. People searching for local service providers, such as plumbers, electricians, HVAC, and more, could see or hear ads on Google Assistant and Google Home.
This is due to the fact service providers and merchants alike must register for certification through the Google Guarantee Program.
With estimates of 50 million Home Hub sales and the fact Google Assistant appears on the majority of devices running Android, it’s a good bet Google will monetize these.
