Google smart speakers’ OTA updates might be the culprits behind devices suddenly bricking and there isn’t a fix to apply…
Smart speakers aren’t necessarily ubiquitous but the devices aren’t that far off from being as common as televisions. Most people don’t even give these tech tools much thought and don’t realize the stream of updates they receive. That is, until the gadgets stop working properly.
Google Smart Speakers Brick after OTA Update and Some can’t Reset
Recently, Google Home and Home Mini owners have taken to internet forums to report issues with their gear. Some have stated encountering performance issues, prompting them to temporarily unplug. Others have had to go to greater lengths, conducting entire factory resets.
Still, there are remaining device owners reporting no matter what they’ve done, the accessories stay bricked.
Consequently, a Google community specialist joined one discussion and wrote, “the team is working on this issue and checking the root cause since not all Google Home devices are affected.”
What’s more disconcerting is owners complaining Google refusing to replace their devices because of expired warranties. This, even though it seems quite clear the company’s updates inflicted the damage.
