Google is working on bringing this neat option to both WhatsApp and Telegram, after successfully integrating it into Gmail two years ago…
Let’s face it, a solid majority of P2P or peer-to-peer communications do not require lengthy exchanges. Most of the time, short sentences suffice. And, that’s why Google introduced Smart Compose, a suggestion feature, back in May of 2018. Since that time, it’s been a staple of the UI. Now, Google is apparently adding it to third-party apps, like WhatsApp and Telegram, through its own mobile application.
Google Starts Testing Smart Compose on WhatsApp and Telegram
The Smart Compose feature also appears in Google Docs, but it’s never before been made available in messaging apps. It’s accessible through the latest Gboard beta release, version 220.127.116.117844448. So, anyone using Gboard for Google Messages, Telegram, or WhatsApp, might see it on the stable build in the not-too-distant future.
While it does offer suggestions, people don’t have to use them. It’s possible to ignore the suggestions or alter them, for that matter. The more it’s used, the better it understands the context and improves over time. (As with a number of applications, Smart Compose employs artificial intelligence and machine learning.)
Depending on how the trial goes, it might or might not be a permanent addition to Gboard. Only time will tell.
